The church of All Saints, Winthorpe, is the featured church for February 2025. The village is located 3 km north-east of Newark on Trent.
There has been a church here since at least the mid-12th century. The current church was built in 1886-8 and was designed by S. G. Parry.
It consists of a chancel with organ chamber and vestry, a three-bay nave (the west end of which has a projecting apsidal baptistery), a north aisle, a north-west tower built over the porch with a spire 105 feet high. The building is made of red brick with ancaster stone dressings.
The richly decorated altar is of walnut wood and red Devonshire marble, the whole being richly decorated. The altar front is divided into three panels: in the centre is the Agnus Dei, and on either side groups of figures forming a choir of angels. The paintings are by Heaton, Butler, and Bayne.
The church has 15 stained glass windows, many of which are the work of Heaton, Butler and Bayne.
The tower contains a ring of six bells, most of which date from 1887 but with one of 1630 and one of 1906.
Further information on the church can be found at the Southwell and Nottingham Church History Project website.
