The annual “Ride and Stride event “– (remember to put the date in your diary)
Notts Historic Churches Trust founded in 1986 makes grants available to all Christian denominations, (Churches and Chapels) to help with essential restoration and repairs. The grants offered are crucial in encouraging people to raise the often daunting sums of money required for maintenance and repairs necessary in keeping the buildings in pristine condition.
A major part of the Trust’s income comes from the proceeds of the sponsored Ride and Stride event, held each year on the second Saturday in September.
Similar trusts exist in other counties in England, and these will be holding their own sponsored events on the same day. Nationally, the Ride and Stride raises well over one million pounds a year for the Churches, Chapels and the Historic Churches Trust.
As usual the event is open to those who wish to cycle, drive or walk, or any other means of propulsion between Churches and Chapels in our area.
Remember – an open Church is a welcoming place for all to discover and reflect – and, if possible, light refreshments available to visitors.
Those Churches in receipt of a Grant in the last 12 months are encouraged to take part to help celebrate the work carried out and help the Trust to continue.
Please add this event to your Parish events schedule at your Next Church Council Meeting. Registration forms will be sent out later (hopefully following your Church Council Annual Meeting).
Finally a huge thank you to all those who took part last year, even though the weather was a little wet, making it the best year yet, thus helping to raise much needed funds for Churches and the Trust in our area – enabling the Trust to continue to help fund repairs to so many local historic Church buildings.
