Restoration work at Ratcliffe-on-Soar church

The tracery of the 13th century east chancel window of Holy Trinity Church, Ratcliffe on Soar, was in need of urgent repair.

The restoration work will involve:

  • photographing sections
  • taking paper rubbings reference
  • carefully dismantling sections using appropriate tools
  • carefully cleaning all glass with fine wire wool, removing all dirt and tarnish due to rusting steel
  • rebuilding ferramentas (an interlocking system of metal bars that supports the glazing) sections on lining paper rubbings using existing glass and replacing any broken/missing – matching as near as possible and new lead cames, matching size and profile

Nottinghamshire Historic Churches Trust were pleased to assist with funding the restoration.
