The church of Holy Trinity, Bulcote, is the featured church for December 2023. The village of Bulcote is 9 km (6 miles) north-east of Nottingham.
By the middle of the 19th century the old church was in very poor condition and a large section of the nave collapsed during a thunderstorm in July 1861.
The church was rebuilt in 1862 by the Cheshire architect, Thomas Bower.
It consists of bellcote above the west gable wall, nave, south porch, north vestry/organ chamber and chancel. The east end is apsidal.
The fabric is built of pale stone with red brick stripes.
The single bell in the bellcote dates from c.1450 and is thought to be the third oldest church bell in Southwell & Nottingham diocese. It originally hung in the old church and was transferred to the current building in 1862.
On the interior south wall of the chancel are the remains of a 12th century piscina decorated with crude volutes. It presumably came from the old church.
Further information on the church can be found at the Southwell and Nottingham Church History Project website.
