Church of the Month (June 2024)

The church of St Barnabus, Ranskill, is the featured church for June 2024. The village of Ranskill is 8 km (5 miles) north-west of Retford.

The church consists of nave, porch, chancel, vestry and a tall bell turret containing one bell.

The church was built in 1877-78 to a design by the Newark architect, Charles Baily. The chancel and south vestry were added in 1893.

There are three stained glass windows in the south wall of the nave in memory of the men of Ranskill and Torworth who served and died in the First World War, the Second World War and the Korean War.

The three-light east window of the chancel is in memory of Samuel and Elizabeth Pollit and depicts Christ on the Cross with the Blessed Virgin Mary, and St. John. It is the work of Burlison and Grylls and was installed in 1907.

Further information on the church can be found at the Southwell and Nottingham Church History Project website.
